It was a different era for the city of big shoulders. This birds eye view hints at it by including neighboring East Chicago and Gary, Indiana; it was the era of steel mills, heavy manufacturing and the post WW-II boom time. Highways are yet to ring the city, and bountiful landscape of small rural towns aren't that far away the Loop and downtown Chicago. Indeed this view reaches out to Peoria and Freeport and up into Wisconsin, showing the major roads and rail lines. But while the footprint and impact of the city was growing it hadn't become the powerhouse that would overwhelm the state and shift the gravity of the region as it has today. This is a great view of a gathering region that by the end of the 20th century would become the seat of a megaregion that would dominate the area. Uncommon. Condition is very good.
