  • (Tibet - Central) This Map, drawn by the Lama Mathematicians, and corrected and Improved by the Missionaryies in 1717. is Inscribed by the Editor to Mr. John Alexancer. - The Seventh sheet, which is properly the third of Tibet, including the Country in the Neighborhood of the Tsanpu to the west of Lasa. , Du Halde, c. 1738
Du Halde, was a 17th century French Jesuit that was an expert on Chin aand some of the surrounding areas. No, he had never been to Asia, but he was the recipient of the information from regional Jesuit outposts and became the compiler of all that was known. He had a birds eye view of the time for what were minimally understood regions and cultures.
Here, a map from his series on this part of Asia, showing a complex portion of Tibet. Notes the major towns and placenames, notes rivers and major mountain ranges.
Condition is good with some minor edge tears, and soiling to the top of the sheet. Uncommon. Image size is approximately 19.5 x 12.5.
