(Africa) Distribution Of The Pygmy Tribes In Central And South Africa.- By Dr. Henry Schlichter - S.G.M., 1892
Not long ago the remains of two different archaic humans, Homo floresiensis (2003) and Homo luzonensis (2007) were discovered, and put a whole new perspective on the phenotype of the Pygmys. In both types of archaic humans they were diminutive, and at their mature state were maybe four foot tall or less. The Pygmys of Africa, historically, were known for their smaller stature, and had been known since the Greek poet, Homer, as a specific people that inhabited portions of Africa. And stories have been told for generations of smaller people that lived together in remote parts of Australia, the Philippines and even remote Tibet/China.
This small map might show that these diminutive peoples groups might always be in danger of fading away or being genetically overwritten by neighboring populations. This map identifies and names clusters of Pygmy people from modern day Kenya and southern Ethiopia, almost to the coast of the Congo and Cameroon, and deep to South Africa. This is a shockingly broad span of numerous populations compared to today's groups of thirteen clusters that inhabit small parts of Central Africa. Perhaps this map points to the inevitable challenges of these isolated groups and how they fade away into smaller and smaller regions of their native lands.
Condition is very good. Image size is approximately 8.5 x 8.5 (inches)
