(Alaska, Canada, Pacific Northwest) Carte Generale Des Decouvertes De L'Amiral De Fonte representant la grande probabilite d'un Passage Au Nord Oouest par Thomas Jeffreys Geographe du Roi a Londres 1768., De Vaugondy, 1772
An interesting stage in the evolution of understanding this vast part of the continent. While Alaska begins to take shape and is now a peninsula rather that clumps of islands, there is a definite Northwest Passage that in an uninterrupted fashion makes it from the Pacific ocean, over to Cumberland island and nearby Greenland. Includes a number of significant mythical notations such as the lost city of "Quivira" in the central West, and along an inlet on the Pacific coast we see "Fou Sang des Chinois", the Chinese land of Fou Sang. Includes information from earlier Japanese and Russian maps. A crisp and detailed. engraving. Condition is very good. Archivally framed with linen mat and silver frame. Overall size is approximately 20.25 x 23.25 (inches)
