A fascinating little map of the continent from the late 18th century showing the general understanding of the region, with some interesting notations. In the far northern reaches of the northern ocean it shows "Nova Zembla" with a mention that "Here the Dutch winter'd in 1597". In central Asia a simple notation shows "Here live Hoards of Reviling Tartars" (sp?). It also includes an odd unattached land mass off the northern islands of Japan that is simply labeled "Company's Land", (perhaps a primitive Kamchatka?).
