(Brazil) Bresiliens, Mallet, 1683
Alain Mallet was a talented engineer and cartographer who served in several different king's courts, aside from his military experience. This proximity to the crown probably also afforded him insights into geography and frontiers of exploration of the time. In the 1680's he began a several volume project to illustrate and chart both the history and contemporary views of the world and something of its cultures.
Here, a gratuitous and dark take on the cannibals of Brazil. A fine engraving. Condition is very good with some light staining and wear. Image size is approximately 6 x 4 (inches)
