First issued by Cellarius in 1661 and reissued in 1708, this was the vanguard of celestial study showing the southern hemisphere and correlating it to the land masses on the terrestrial surface. With layers of information from the earth's surface to ancient and contemporary symbols for cosntellations, this is a dense and beautiful engraving.
