(CO.- Boulder County) Map showing position of Mineral Lands owned by Platt Rogers George Rogers and Irving W. Stanton - Situated in Boulder County Colorado..., George W. Teal, c. 1898
The weight and importance of this hand inked map begins with its title. Platt Rogers was the "Iron Handed Mayor" of Denver from 1891-93. Irving W. Stanton arrived in 1860 for the initial gold rush, became deputy postmaster and pursued many careers in Colorado, and wrote the book "Sixty Years in Colorado: Reminiscences and Reflections of a Pioneer of 1860". Even the map itself is done by the British born engineer and surveyor that studied in Germany and did a wealth of work along the front range and was the county surveyor for Boulder county from 1891-98. These are all characters that played roles in the founding and development of the state, first hand.
Here the mountains behind Boulder that so many now call home, here shown with all the towns, roads and creeks from Nederland and Caribou, up to Ward, Albion, Gold Hill and Jamestown. Shows the general footprint of Boulder in the east, down to Marshall and up to Left Hand Creek.
A rare pen and ink on oil cloth. Condition is good with anticipated soiling and wear typical of manuscript works for the time, mostly to the left edges. $1700.00
