  • Map of Colorado.

Louis Nell was the cartographic engine behind the Wheeler expedition of the American West. Spanning from Colorado to California, from Idaho to New Mexico, and all points in between, they documented the rugged and diverse terrain of the West. After his time with Wheeler was finished, he was free to move anywhere and chose to settle in Colorado. He set up shop in Denver and began producing the best reference maps of the time for the still very young state.

Here is a fine example of his folding map, still in original hard covers. Shows the roads, towns, major terrain and drainages, as well as railroads, counties and national forests. Green areas show a bit of the land quality near rivers and creeks.

Condition is good with some minor separations at the folds, but none showing loss. Image size is approximately 31.25 x 40 (inches)
