(District of Columbia – Civil War) 500 Miles Around the City of Washington...
A very rare folding map issued at the beginning of the Civil War and covering the theatre of where it would unfold. While we've handled plenty of material that was published at the flurry of the the War's outset, we've never encountered this map. The large map focuses on the capital with concentric rings emanating every 100 miles from the capitol, with each state brightly hand colored, and dense with detail. The accompanying map below shows a detailed railroad map for the region from NYC to Fredericksburg, and up to Rochester PA. Divided by county, it notes each of the county seats and major towns. There are no instances of this being offered through the priceguide, and only shows up in a few institutions and private collections. Condition is very good with only two small separations at corner folds. Still in its original paper board covers.
Image size is 30.5 x 20, bright full hand color.
