Hand colored by county, this map for the state shows the primitive understanding of the terrain and the development of the north and still primitive expanse of the south. While towns and railroads dot the many counties of the north, they thin out quickly by the time you reach Tampa and become more sparse in the vast southern counties of Dade, Monroe, Brevard and Manatee. A large inset shows the situation of the Keys from Biscayne Bay south and west to the Tortugas.
