Hauptmann, 1987 Designed and drawn for the 750th anniversary of the city, this is an amazing overview that gives a bigger view of Berlin beyond the nightmares of WWII and the ensuing vivisection of the urban landscape between the once allied powers versus the Soviet Union, this poster captures something of the arc of the life of the city. From an early inland seaside resort, to artifacts of the bronze age, to the time a man rounded up soldiers to take over the local treasury, this map sweeps over the area as well as the centuries. Whether its the first electric trolley or the Von Humboldts home, or that elk skeleton they found when building the highway that was thousands of years old, this feels like a Berliner's take on the city's life.
