He was the son of a great noted American geologist, Edward Hitchcock, and this by Charles Hitchcock shows the major geology of the US as it was understood in our centenary year. By this time Charles was the state geologist for New Hampshire and the professor of Geology at Dartmouth College. A handsome map it shows nine types of geological formation and that done with full hand color.
