The Johnson company was one of the better American mapmakers of the 19th century, and were known for keeping current with all the changes that were occurring. This is a fine example of their work with bold original hand color. This map covers all of the Middle East from the Turkish coast to the far reaches of Afghanistan and Arabia. Shows many towns as well as the terrain. Several vignettes show "Muscat", "Trebisond" and "Castle and Port of Smyrna".
