Map showing location of Pottawattamie Reserve, Lands in Kansas belonging to Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe R.R. Co.
For an tribe that was rooted in the Algonquin peoples, the Potawatomis were initially known in Michigan, then were removed from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and other parts of the midwest.
This promotional map had to do with the Kansas band of the Potawatomi and their initial reservation which was purchased by the A.T. & S.F. Railroad from the Federal government, and opened a large patch of land, not far from the capital city of Topeka. This map shows a large portion of north east Kansas, from Linn and Marion counties, up to Washington and Doniphan. Shows the major towns, creeks and rivers as well as some of the coal fields. A rare map for early Kansas.
