The race was becoming so popular, so foundational to French culture, that the church decided to jump into the game, so to speak. Here, starting at the cathedral of Chatres, you immediately head to the "Little Flower" of St Therese and off you go on a tour of the pilgrimage sites of France. It is a dense itinerary wrapping around the country with optional trips to Rome and Jerusalem, but it winds you right back to Montmatre in Paris.
