There are abundant hand colored counties upon initial glimpse, but what becomes clear on inspection is that by majority, most are empty. While perhaps a half to a third of Nebraska and Kansas counties include towns, the vast territory of Dakota barely has development in the southeast, and a handful of towns along the upper Missouri river.
