We often take it for granted, living in the modern air age, but there was a great novelty to birds eye views that captured the imagination. This image is a fine instance, as if hovering somewhere above Jersey, this image shows us Manhattan and the sprawling growth of the metropolis, in a style that while not photographic, certainly is trying to convey natural quality of the land. From the Highlands of Navesink to Greenwich CT., up to Haverstraw this view shows the major towns and roads, along with bridges and tunnels.
