A fine engraving that includes some of the most interesting speculation of the time. Not only does it show a very articulate Island of California with several channel islands, floating off the coast of the continent, it also shows the location of the lost cities of Cibola, and Quivira. The Great Lakes are here shown as open ended, with the western reaches of two great lakes (Superior and Michigan?)not being enclosed and apparently just drifting westward. In the northern reaches, a possible water route is hinted at going beyond Hudson's Bay, and even Greenland is shown as having potentially two water passages crossing the great island. Does show colonial boundaries for claims by France, Spain and England.
Condition is very good with some weakness to the centerfold, but not affecting the image. Image size is approximately 8 x 11 (inches) $500.00
