Four laps around Central Park. That's how the New York Marathon started out in 1970, organized by some local running enthusiasts. And out of the 127 runners, only 55 finished. In time the race would become the annual event that would wind through all five boroughs and be attended by thousands. And during this giant spectacle, little moments would spotlight the fun and wonder of humanity. From nuns helping up a fallen runner, to Hasidim in Williamsburg "squirting seltzer on overheated runners". Here many vignettes over two decades show some of the unique moments that broke through the drama of the race. Condition is very good with strong color and issued on thick stock. Image size is approximately 34.75 x 23 (inches).
