(PA.-Philadelphia) A Caricature Map of Philadelphia, S.T.- R.M.W., c. 1928
"This map is not intended to prove anything, is not drawn to any known scale..." A tongue-in-cheek map for the city but with a bit of gritty Philly attitude. It's the inclusion of the illegal gin stills, boarding houses, the "Palais D' Hot Dog", as well as where Franklin lived and Robert Morris. It feels like a local, from the period, gave an honest and unflattering view of the historic city, and captured something of its essence at the time. A rarity that well illustrates the value of pictorial cartography dramatizing the life and culture of an area. Condition is good with some repaired edge tears and old misfolds, but color, image and overall sheet are clean and clear. Image size is approximately 22 x 31.5 (inches)
