A Voyage To The Pacific Ocean. Undertaken, By The Command Of His Majesty, For Making Discoveries in the Northern Hemisphere...
A remarkably clean and bright three volume set of the first Irish edition of this landmark work. In full leather these volumes cover the massive progress brought by the expedition from the first maps of the Hawaiian ("Sandwich") islands to the first great map for the Alaskan coast and the opposing Kamchatkan coast. It's was a work, that at the time introduced many Pacific and Pacific Northwest cultures to European audiences and the images and maps would be reproduced everywhere at the time. This octavo edition includes the key maps of the expedition as well as a large two part world map on Mercator's projection showing the tracts of the expedition.
A foundational work for understanding the western hemisphere and the situation of the north western parts of the North American continent, as well as islands and diversity of the Pacific.
Condition is very good for all three volumes which contents would be described as crisp and bright. Some minor gutter tears on a few maps.
