Just ten miles north of Hot Springs, South Dakota is the entrance to one of the largest caves in the world. Stretching over 140 miles underground, this cave was known to the Lakota and considered an entry point to the underworld. Realizing it's unique beauty and environment there was a continual press for it to be reserved as a national park. It was approved in 1903, and this map is signed by acting commissioner, as well as a later signature by the superintendent Snyder.
