(South & (Southeast) A New Map of Part of the United States of North America, containing the Carolinas and Georgia. Also the Floridas and Part of the Bahama Islands & c.
A fine large map for the Southeast, and quite interesting from several aspects. Showing the primitive South, with a Georgia territory reaching to the Mississippi River, and West and East Florida covering all the Gulf Coast, it is fascinating for notations of Indian tribes and roads from “Tenassee” and North Carolina, to the southern tip of Florida, here called “The Promontory”. A large notation in southern Florida calls the region “Ancient Tegesta”, and in the north a note states “Apalachees Villages now almost all deserted”. Throughout the map native place names are seen and along the “Missisippi” River, locations of long vanished points are noted, “Fort Francois destroyed in 1729”, “Antient Tiowa Villas.”. Throughout what is modern northern Mississippi is a note of “Principal Hunting Grounds of the Western Party and Six Villages”. Condition is very good.
