(Southwest- Mexico) Mexico & Guatemala, Cowperthwaite, c. 1847
A wonderful and uncommon instance of this composition for the region. Here the full extent of the Mexican empire. The northern reaches extend to the territorial Oregon border with a vast "Upper California". A sliver of "New Mexico" is nestled in between it and Texas. Insets show the "Valley of Mexico" and a good portion of central America in "Guatemala". Condition is very good with strong original hand color. A very neat manuscript notation in the left margin describes the U.S.-Mexico boundary agreement in 1848. Overall size is approximately 22 x 25.5 (inches)
