(Lunar) Surveyor 3 Makes Safe Landing On Moon
This was an accomplishment for mankind, and an early instance of the U.S. getting their footing in the space race. Here the U.S. lands a craft safely on the moon's surface and began to both photo and analyze the lunar surface. Television cameras sent images from the surface, and a small shovel scooped up the lunar dust to inspect. This was a major step forward and became a foundation for later manned flights in the Apollo era.
