(Spain - Madrid) Escurial
Alain Mallet was a talented engineer and cartographer who served in several different king's courts, aside from his military experience. This proximity to the crown probably also afforded him insights into geography and frontiers of exploration of the time. In the 1680's he began a several volume project to illustrate and chart both the history and contemporary views of the world and something of its cultures.
Here, a wonderful architectural sketch of the famous monastery and world heritage site, the Escurial. A fine engraving. Condition is very good with some light marginal staining and wear. Image size is approximately 6.75 x 4.25 (inches)
