There was an initial cultural battle to network computers. Institutions held their computer systems as a valuable asset (and revenue stream) that they didn't want to compromise or share. But when ARPA demanded that Institutions and Universities join their new computer network, "Arpanet", and use it, in time, the department heads begrudgingly admitted that a computer network could be useful for sending amounts of texts to other people. But quickly the culture shifted and with encouragement, networking computers became a new means of progress and communication in the sciences.
This is a rare illustration for the structure of the "Livermore Advanced Research Computer" network as it evolved from its primitive beginnings in the 1960's into this complex and fast (for the time) network that could connect to several government networks, and even into the "Supercomputing Network Subsytem" that included the Cray Sabre, and the Cray 2 Voyager.
It's another amazing step towards decentralized centers of information for research and study. Scarce.
Condition is very good with some wear and edge tattering. Image size is approximately 14 x 19 (inches).
