The Nez Perce Indian Campaign

1877

  • ~Catalog 53~
  • Department of Columbia Map of the Nez Perce Indian Campaign

This map is the story of the last great Indian battle as Chief Joseph and his men battle the US forces as they retreat toward Canada. It was over a thousand mile journey and thirteen battles before the Chief Joseph issued his famous surrender of "where the Sun now stands, I will fight no more forever". The Nez Perce had been known since there interaction with the Lewis & Clark expedition, and covered lands throughout what is present day Washington, Oregon and Idaho. This map shows that territory and more as it marks the retreat. A map that depicts the definitive end of the Indian age as it was known.

Condition is good with browning and weakening of the folds. Some minor supportive repairs have been made. Image size is 21.5 x 46(inches).
