The Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, considered to be the first true modern atlas, was written by Abraham Ortelius Flemish cartographer and geographer and originally published in 1570. This edition is a facsimile of the London 1606 edition which was the only English edition of Ortelius' atlas. The introduction by R.A. Skelton provides a biographical sketch of Abraham Ortelius.
