 The wonderful Biblical scholar and author, Elaine Pagels wrote a great book on the book of Revelations, it's impacts and uses, and she could well contextualize maps such as this. The book of Revelations had been used since the time of Luther, up through the world wars and the Cold War, as a means to segregate and blame, as well as to point to a secure sense of what was to come. Maps like this, that utilize the book of Revelation, not only allow us, in our modern situation, to insert ourselves in the arc of the Biblical narrative, but it can also allow us to typecast people into those that are in the "in-group" and the vast majority that are not. This map from the "American Prophetic League" well illustrates another interesting meta-perspective, in that in the past (on the left side of the map) it was perfect and ideal, then the human era happens, and on the far right side it returns to state of perfection and flawlessness.
