In the early chapters of Steven Weinberg's great book "Dreams Of A Final Theory", he so well dramatizes the historical shift of understanding from the focus on elements and matter, to the invisible worlds of forces, fields and the quantum physics. Here, a NYC inventor in 1929, J. Anthony Vogelmann, was inspired to try his hand at harmonizing the diverse topics of Heat, Sound, Light and "Aurora Rays". It's an interesting organic approach to trying to describe the forces of the natural world, but without much in the way of acknowledging the foundations of Newton, Huygens, Maxwell or Einstein, just mentioning a Smithsonian article that "formed the Germinal Plan for the Construction of this Chart". The language and conceptual layout used on the chart evokes a certain spiritualism of the time that was in vogue and commonly felt by some to find a connection between cutting edge of the sciences and an ineffable spiritual plain. It seems to point to an inevitable, logical and simple method to understand almost all the facets of the universe. (Notably, Vogelmann's chart doesn't appear in Dr Weinberg's book at any point). A scarce and visually interesting attempt at the frontier of science at the time. Condition is very good with some minor fold separations, no loss. Overall size is approximately 24 x 36 (inches) $400.00
