The Liberation New Service was founded in 1967 and sought to be the source for counter-cultural and New Left perspective serving as an opposing voice to the Associated Press or the United Press International. With strong ties to the Black Panthers and SDS (Students for a Democratic Society) they found their footing in substantiating the reasoning of the anti-war movement and began to circulate printed "packets" that were sent out two to three times a week to a growing mailing list. Their contribution to journalism could be see in their advocacy for topics that had previously been taboo from Feminism and Homosexuality to Marxism, liberation struggles or psychedelic drugs.

Packets included news, opinion pieces, poetry, photos and political cartoons, all ready to be offered for use. The LNS was an enduring presence until 1981 when they closed. This is a very rare instance with a cartographic cover with a color related pun for the spread of communism across Southeast Asia. Its fifteen pages stapled together of the "underground press" in action. Condition is good with light staining, offsetting, wear. Overall size is approximately 14 x 10 (inches)
