The term "Great" is, many times, best judged over time. Sure someone's skills and appearance may look amazing for the context of the time, but the slope is always trending towards improvement in most disciplines. This chart of "Great" composers includes the names you'd expect like Vivaldi, Mozart and Beethoven, but to round up to the time of publication many recent "Greats" were added. People like Enesco, Malipiero and Dukas, sit aside names like Stravinsky, Bartok and Barber... which, in all fairness were not in the same league.
