Toro Mucho. Chief of a Band of Kioways..
A beautiful chromo-lithograph from the report on the United States and Mexican Boundary survey, which not only studied the topography, but also flora and fauna and native culture. A series of prints accompanied the report that looked with some detail at specific tribes and leaders. This print shows a portrait of a Kioway Chief, Toro Mucho, who the artist described as visiting him "in full dress, on which occasion he displayed great humility, exhibiting conspicuously on his person an immense silver cross, which he stated had been given him by the Bishop of Durango when he was converted to Christianity. He had, no doubt, robbed some church of it."
