(U.K. -thematic) National Savings Map Of The British Isles Showing Festivals and Customs And The Arms Or Seals Of The Counties, Anon., c. 1953 After the end of WWII the nation was still enduring hard times. Even though belt tightening continued for most people, there was a press from the government for people to invest in saving. This large dramatic map was intended to encourage the cause by showing the unique and sometimes odd festivals that occur across the islands. It points out the amazing regional subcultures, many with rituals rooted in ancient times that were still practiced into the 20th century, and it's not just "Cheese Rolling", "Egg Clapping", but odd things like "the Burryman". Condition is good with some minor loss on corner folds and a few minor fold tears repaired. Image size is approximately 38.5 x 28.5 (inches)
