(U.S.) Map of the Northern Parts of the United States of America, Abraham Bradley, 1802
While this is an early map showing the important postal routes of the young nation, done by the post master of the time, it's those primitive numbered territories in the west that first catch ones eye. With a small "New Connecticut" on the southern banks of Lake Erie, it finds itself in the midst of familiar borders to today's Ohio, and neighboring Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin, though not named. In the southeastern portions of Ohio the land companies of the "Seven Ranges..." and "Ohio Comp." are present along the river, as forts, a few towns and "Fine Prairies" and "Very Large Meadows" lay to the west.
