It was a time of growth and change, and here we see the composition of the modern U.S. when it was the home of three different nations; Mexico, Texas and the U.S. Fascinating for it's depiction of the West, with several vast territories spanning to the Pacific (Missouri Terr., Indian Terr., Oregon Terr.) A smaller Republic of Texas includes the notation that "Texas was declared Independent of Mexico in 1836", as well as in it western reaches that there were "Herds of Buffaloes and Wild Horses". Mexico covers the majority of the Southwest and is covered with a distance chart perhaps to help veil the it was mostly an "Unexplored Region" at the time.
