(U.S. - Thematic) Guerilla War In The U.S.A.
The Black Panther, 1970
It's a map that had been used before by the Panthers, reprinted from Scanlan's, but here its impact is used for the cover. With black dots showing "urban guerilla" actions across the nation, this map dispels the story line that it is just odd, isolated, remote disturbances. In this scope the Panthers show themselves as part of a greater moment and reaction to the conditions of the time. A long editorial article includes a table of specific incidents around the country and begins to tie these events to the greater national struggles in other parts of the world, with a specific correlation to the uprising in Cuba under Castro, which was still ideologically held as an David vs. Goliath battle for liberation.
In a time of localized media, tying together these threads of regional uprisings begins to give substance to the great cause of the Black Panthers. Condition is good for this newsprint paper with some marginal tears, toning and old fold. Overall size is approximately 17.5 x 11.5 (inches)
