(West - Colorado) Smith's New Geography, Smith, 1860
There are few maps that document the potential Territory of Jefferson, but this work offers three maps that show the location of the latest territory to incorporate the Gold Rush region. In the depiction of three maps; "United States", "Kansas, Nebraska, Minnesota, Indian Territory, Dacotah." and "Washington, Oregon, California, Utah, New Mexico." we see very up to date configurations for the western territories, with the appearance of "Jefferson" in the western reaches of Kansas and Nebraska territories. On these maps the territory is not uniquely hand colored, but is bounded by the continental divide on its western boundary, reaches up to "Ft Laramie" and south beyond Pueblo, with its eastern boundary being implied to what is the present eastern boundary of Colorado. A rare contemporary view of this transitional stage of the rapidly evolving West. Condition is good with the anticipated wear and scuffing to the covers, but with a tight binding. Some sporadic foxing and soiling throughout the pages. Overall size is approximately 11.75 x 13.5 (inches)
