A masterpiece of German cartography looking seriously at the United States, Texas and their exploration and development. Well detailed for the states east of the Mississippi River, noting the major rail lines and roads, as well as towns and terrain, the West is the source of most interest. A massive Missouri territory covers most of the plains and near Rockies from the continental divide to the state of Missouri and its neighbors. Notates a wealth of tributaries to the Missouri River drainage and includes dozens of regional native tribes. Beyond the continental divide lay the possessions of Mexico in the Southwest and the large Oregon territory of the Pacific Northwest. Does wrestle with the origin of the Colorado river and its tributaries, shown originating just south of Lake Timpanogos. But most dramatic is the depiction the Republic of Texas which includes the extended “stovepipe” panhandle that reaches up into present day Wyoming, just below the “Big Horn” mountains. Texas is shown divided into land tracts, some with towns which are connected by handfuls of roads. A real rarity complete in the original German handbook by Bromme.

All three volumes are beautifully rebound and complete with the map detached though with no loss. Numerous illustrations included though shy the total number called for, which can be supplied in facsimile. The text is very clean and without the foxing that is typical. The folding elevation chart does have light off setting. A beautiful and desirable set.
