(West) MAP Illustrating the plan of the defences of the WESTERN & NORTH WESTERN FRONTIER, as proposed by THE HON. J.R. POINSETT SEC. OF WAR, US Govt., 1837 A potential plan how a border region could be maintained, if the U.S. was indeed to give the Native Americans a considerable chunk of the U.S. West. With Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana being the final states of the area, then Indian land districts could be divided in corridors starting at the Red River and spanning up to modern day Iowa and Minnesota. A series of forts and roads are accentuated with hand color. Condition is fair with some repairs to the old folds, modern hand color, and a restored lower right corner, with some minor loss of printed matter. Image size is approximately 21.25 x 15.5 (inches)
