  • (West) "Map Of An Exploring Expidition To The Rocky Mountains in 1842 And to Oregon & North California in 1843, 44", The Weekly Herald, October 18, 1845
A dramatic front page featuring the news with a prominent depiction of the Fremont/Preuss map, and two illustrations of scenes for "Chimney Rock...", and "Fort Laramie...". The map indeed spans from the mouth of the Missouri River in the east, all the way to the "Walahmutte Settlement" in Oregon Territory, and down to the "Pueblo de los Angeles" in California. All are crisp wood block engravings. Done at a time when Fremont was building the myth of his prowess as a "pathfinder" in the West, and must have done wonders for his ego. A rare item that we've only had once before.
Condition is very good with some anticipated light foxing, and minor fold wear. Overall size is approximately 29 x 16
