This great map of the west was a cartographic landmark and one of the great western maps of all time. It was compiled from information gleaned from each of Fremonts first three expeditions and shows the entire west from Fort Laramie to the Pacific and contains details from Fremonts travels and others.. The addition of information about the Great Basin was a major advance. It is not without faults and has Fremont's distinctive east west mountain chain south of the Great Basin Still its detail is amazing and it did much to elaborate on the sketchy knowledge of the period.
