(West) Map of the Oregon Territory by the U.S. Ex. Ex., 1841
This map was issued in the atlas of five maps that appeared with the deluxe edition of the Wilkes narrative. A similar smaller map was issued with the regular edition but this is much more rare. Oregon extends from the Laramie Plains to the Pacific and north to include all of todays British Columbia. At the time it was issued, it was the most accurate and detailed map of the region. Wheat called it “quite extraordinary”. Although Wilkes used material gathered by others he sent parties up the Columbia River and into the interior to gather information for the map. The result was a fine creation. This copy is backed with cloth, but with minimal problems at the folds.
Overall the map is good with even toning to the paper, with a few small scuff points. Image size is approximately 35 x 23 (inches),
