Battle Of Luzon
The Philippines was a strategic stronghold that the Allies fought to keep as a foothold in the Pacific theatre. But at this time early in the war, the Japanese forces pressed into the region and were victorious. Indeed this is the time around when General MacArthur was driven out of the area and in a speech declared that "I shall return". Later in 1945, Allied forces would to liberate the islands.
